Bizarte Beagles ---------- for our pleasure and yours - Fabulous beagles of distinction for Quality Pet or Show
Here I would like to tell you our policy on feeding and hope this is helpful on deciding which feed, when, how much etc. Also tit-bits,treats and toys.Use training tools I use and getting preparation done ready for the show ring. You have to have 'an eye' for condition, this means of course checking you Beagle over to see if he needs to put some flesh on or to lose some and where. You cannot expect to work or show your Beagle in poor condition or one that is overweight.Run your hands over his ribcage and up into the belly and loins, this is where you can judge the flesh.Stand back as if you were a judge and be true to yourself and note his frame and any imperfections,if he has a weak loin then he made need a little more flesh and work to muscle him up there.Has he a deep chest and well sprung ribs, you should be able to just feel them and a nice glossy coat and shiny eyes. All my Beagles have noses like ice-cubes that you could put in a Gin and Tonic. If he has an upset tummy he will lose condition,is he having too much protein(meat and meat products)? Or are you giving him your food?We fee White's Premium and Burn's.I have one dog who has a sensitive tummy so he is on a Salmon/Rice dry food and this means no more diaorhea (Yuck) and you will never get condition on a dog who has this.Look at his poo's(you will have to pick them up anyway! at some stage)they should be firm but moist not hard and painful to eject, nor do you want projectile stools pooling or with blood in.This can indicate a bacteria in the intestine or stomach and you need to seek you vets advice unless you are very experienced and know what to do.Usually Panacur liquid over a period of time is given alongside a kaolin prep. and or antibiotic.Diet of plain cooked chicken and boiled rice and a probiotic can be given to return the gut to normality.
